Overview

The worldwide success with the 24 greatest Queen songs. The hit musical by Queen and Ben Elton.

After triumphant guest performances worldwide, "We Will Rock You", the smash hit by Queen and Ben, begins Elton, now a new chapter of success. The show will be touring around the 24 greatest Queen hits in the spectacular new staging of the English original production in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The songs are of course sung in English, while the dialogues are in German. Tickets on sale from the end of October.
So far, "We Will Rock You" has delighted more than 15 million fans in 17 countries. The series of performances at London's Dominion Theater alone lasted an amazing twelve years with an almost unbelievable 4,600 shows. The guest performance in the Cologne Musical Dome lasted four years. A total of around three million visitors saw “We Will Rock You” in Germany.
The futuristic musical comedy, which spans an arc in terms of content and appearance that is also reminiscent of Queen's legendary live performances, is considered a global phenomenon. Two dozen classics like "We are the Champions", "Killerqueen" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" celebrate the career of one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
The blockbuster film Bohemian Rhapsody recently once again demonstrated Queen's unique appeal. Their spectacular tours are still among the greatest attractions of rock music.

History
Premiere of this production: 14 May 2002, Dominion Theatre, West End, London

We Will Rock You (often abbreviated as WWRY) is a jukebox musical based on the songs of the British rock band Queen with a book by Ben Elton. The musical tells the story of a group of Bohemians who struggle to restore the free exchange of thought and fashion, and live music in a distant future where everyone dresses, thinks, and acts the same. Musical instruments and composers are forbidden, and rock music is all but unknown.

Venue Info

Alte Oper Frankfurt - Frankfurt am Main
Location   Opernplatz 1

The original opera house in Frankfurt is now the Alte Oper (Old Opera), a concert hall and former opera house in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. It was inaugurated in 1880 but destroyed by bombs in 1944. It was rebuilt, slowly, in the 1970s, opening again in 1981. Many important operas were performed for the first time in Frankfurt, including Carl Orff's Carmina Burana in 1937.

The square in front of the building is known as Opernplatz (Opera Square). The Alte Oper is located in the inner city district, Innenstadt, within the banking district Bankenviertel.

The Oper Frankfurt now plays in the Opern- und Schauspielhaus Frankfurt, completed in 1951, which it shares with the Schauspiel Frankfurt theatre company.

The building was designed by the Berlin architect Richard Lucae, financed by the citizens of Frankfurt and built by Philipp Holzmann. Construction began in 1873. It opened on October 20, 1880.

The Alte Oper was almost completely destroyed by bombs during World War II in 1944 (only some of the outside walls and façades survived). In the 1960s the city magistrate planned to build a modern office building on the site. The then Minister of Economy in Hessen Rudi Arndt, earned the nickname "Dynamit-Rudi" (Dynamite Rudi) when he proposed to blow up "Germany's most beautiful ruin" with "a little dynamite". Arndt later said that this was not meant seriously.

A citizen's initiative campaigned for reconstruction funds after 1953 and collected 15 million DM. It ended costing c. DM160, and the building was reopened on August 28, 1981, to the sounds of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 8, the "Symphony of a Thousand". A live recording of that concert conducted by Michael Gielen is available on CD.
