Programme
Overview

Magic at the Musicals returns to the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 28 September to celebrate the best in musical theatre, with a sparkling evening of performances from leading cast members and the most iconic shows from the West End and beyond.

This year we are thrilled to announce the show will be hosted by Magic Radio presenter, actress and comedian Mel Giedroyc and Magic Musicals presenter and West End superstar Ruthie Henshall

Mel revealed the news on her Magic Radio Sunday Request Show whilst also announcing two new acts for the evening. The Producers, which is fresh from a sold out run at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory and is the first major London revival of Mel Brooks’ musical adaptation of the classic cult film and The Bodyguard, the smash hit musical based on the 1992 Oscar nominated movie, which to date has played to over 3.9 million people in 15 countries.

These two new shows join the seven already announced musicals which include the global smash hit MAMMA MIA! returning to the stage, alongside the global hit production of MJ The Musical, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s acclaimed Starlight Express, the box office smash and award-winning Back to the Future The Musical, the record-breaking seven times Olivier Award winning show Cabaret, Disney’s electrifying new musical Hercules and the show that has been getting audiences dancing in the west end isles for over seven years Tina - The Tina Turner Musical

The event will see the award-winning London Musical Theatre Orchestra return to the stage with a selection of further shows and hosts for the evening to be announced.

For more announcements on the show and to hear all the news first on acts performing at the event, listen to Magic Radio in London on FM 105.4 and across the UK on Digital Radio, Smart Speaker, via Rayo or at magic.co.uk. If you are a musical fan you can listen to our digital radio station, Magic at the Musicals.

Venue Info

Royal Albert Hall - London
Location   Kensington Gore, South Kensington

The Royal Albert Hall is a concert hall on the northern edge of South Kensington, London. One of the United Kingdom's most treasured and distinctive buildings, it is held in trust for the nation and managed by a registered charity (which receives no government funding). It can seat 5,272.

Since the hall's opening by Queen Victoria in 1871, the world's leading artists from many performance genres have appeared on its stage. It is the venue for the Proms concerts, which have been held there every summer since 1941. It is host to more than 390 shows in the main auditorium annually, including classical, rock and pop concerts, ballet, opera, film screenings with live orchestral accompaniment, sports, awards ceremonies, school and community events, and charity performances and banquets. A further 400 events are held each year in the non-auditorium spaces.

The hall was originally supposed to have been called the Central Hall of Arts and Sciences, but the name was changed to the Royal Albert Hall of Arts and Sciences by Queen Victoria upon laying the Hall's foundation stone in 1867, in memory of her husband, Prince Albert, who had died six years earlier. It forms the practical part of a memorial to the Prince Consort; the decorative part is the Albert Memorial directly to the north in Kensington Gardens, now separated from the Hall by Kensington Gore.
