Programme

Overview

Experience the electric energy of a 27-year-old Beethoven in his Quartet Op.18 No.1, alongside works inspired by his early style. RCM's rising stars channel the composer's youthful brilliance in a performance that bridges tradition and innovation.Step into an intimate chamber setting where a 27-year-old Beethoven reshaped the string quartet form. His Quartet Op.18 No.1 unfolds in four movements brimming with youthful vigor and dramatic contrast: a fiery Allegro con brio weaving bold motifs through violin, viola, and cello; a lyrical Andante—echoing the tragic passion of Romeo and Juliet—with poignant grace; a poised Menuetto balancing refined elegance and hushed intensity; and a spirited finale erupting in joyful dialogue and harmonic daring. In the hands of emerging artists from the Royal College of Music, every phrase pulses with fresh vitality, mirroring the composer’s own creative leap. Complementing this historic milestone, the program features works inspired by Beethoven’s nascent style, offering a vivid journey through the birth of a musical revolutionary.
