Programme
Reynaldo Hahn: Estratti da opere, operette e commedie musicali con pianoforte
Overview

At first, the success and esteem earned in the salons by the young Reynaldo Hahn thanks to his mélodies and his chamber music did not help him when he began to think about trying his hand at opera. The critics of the time disliked the entry of such a delicate composer (and moreover Venezuelan!) Into the major scenes of the country. Nevertheless, over time and thanks to numerous successes, Hahn was able to impose his own style and name on Paris, certainly favoring the lighter genres, but without neglecting the lyrical drama. To this eclecticism is added that of the influences that acted on him: his master Massenet, of course, but also the baroque music, the great classics (first of all Mozart) and the romantic school.

Venue Info

Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista - Venice
Location   Campiello della Scuola

The Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista is a confraternity building located in the San Polo sestiere of the Italian city of Venice. Founded in the 13th century by a group of flagellants it was later to become one of the five Scuole Grandi of Venice.

There are two distinct places for hosting concerts and musical events in the monumental complex of San Giovanni Evangelista in the historical center of Venice. The San Giovani Room, redesigned as a meeting hall in the eighteenth century by the celebrated architect Giorgio Massari, has proved to be a first-rate concert hall over the years thanks to its excellent acoustics. The colored marble paving and various paintings by renowned artists also stand out. Its strong point is also the capacity of the room, which can host up to 300 people.
The Church of San Giovanni Evangelista, founded in 970, can host up to 100 people. It contains the precious, still working, an eighteenth-century organ made by G.B. Piaggia.
