Overview

On 6 September, the magnificent Teatro di San Carlo in Naples hosts a special concert performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida, featuring the internationally acclaimed soprano Anna Netrebko in the title role.

Presented in concert version, this evening places the full emotional and vocal power of Verdi’s masterpiece at the forefront, allowing the music to shine with uncompromising intensity.

In this format, the drama unfolds through voice and orchestra alone, revealing the opera’s sweeping architecture and intimate psychological depth. From the tender “O patria mia” to the monumental choral scenes and the triumphant orchestral passages, Verdi’s score moves between grandeur and fragile lyricism with breathtaking force.

Anna Netrebko’s portrayal of Aida promises vocal richness, dramatic nuance, and magnetic stage presence, bringing to life the inner conflict of the Ethiopian princess torn between love and loyalty. Joined by an outstanding cast and the orchestra and chorus of Teatro di San Carlo, the performance captures both the epic scale and the human tragedy at the heart of the opera.

Within the historic walls of Europe’s oldest continuously active opera house, this concert Aida becomes a rare opportunity to experience Verdi’s genius in its purest form.

A monumental evening of Italian opera — passion, power, and unforgettable artistry in Naples.

The Teatro Reale di San Carlo (Royal Theatre of Saint Charles), as originally named by the Bourbon monarchy but today known simply as the Teatro di San Carlo, is an opera house in Naples, Italy, connected to the Royal Palace and adjacent to the Piazza del Plebiscito. It is the oldest continuously active venue for opera in the world, having opened in 1737, decades before either Milan's La Scala or Venice's La Fenice. The opera season runs from late January to May, with the ballet season taking place from April to early June. The house once had a seating capacity of 3,285, but has now been reduced to 1,386 seats. Given its size, structure and antiquity, it was the model for theatres that were later built in Europe.
