Overview

The François Mauduit company presents an original choreography inspired by the actress Audrey Hepburn.

“At the opera, I was taught that dance was first and foremost about elegance. Then, Maurice Béjart taught me that dance was about self-sacrifice, which releases its own mystery, magic and subtle secrets as inner power and quasi-animalistic strength meet mystical spirituality. My work based on Audrey Hepburn encompasses all of this. Living or reliving Audrey’s life involves immersing yourself in an atmosphere which inspires dreams, but behind all the glitz there is a life hovering between hyper-sensitivity, failed love affairs, and inner peace. She dreamed of being a ballerina and always retained that elegance and timeless beauty, ever radiant and endlessly inspiring. The dancers all helped me to reach for the stars and to follow that star; all the music selected elevated me to a higher plane and Audrey Hepburn inspired me. In the words of Jacques Brel’s version of the song The Quest: To dream the impossible dream/To bear with the pain of departures, [...] To love until it tears you apart / To love too much or even too badly / To try without strength or armour / To reach the unreachable star/ This is my quest / To follow that star. I invite you to follow Audrey Hepburn’s star.”

Venue Info

Théâtre des Champs-Elysées - Paris
Location   15 Avenue Montaigne

The Théâtre des Champs-Élysées is an entertainment venue situated near Avenue des Champs-Élysées, from which it takes its name. Its eponymous main hall may seat up to 1,905 people.

Commissioned by impresario Gabriel Astruc, the theatre was built from 1911 to 1913 upon the designs of brothers Auguste Perret and Gustave Perret following a scheme by Henry van de Velde, and became the first example of Art Deco architecture in the city. Less than two months after its inauguration, the Théâtre hosted the world premiere of the Ballets Russes' Rite of Spring, which provoked one of the most famous classical music riots.

At present, the theatre shows about three staged opera productions a year, mostly baroque or chamber works more suited to the modest size of its stage and orchestra pit. It also houses an important concert season. It is the home venue of the Orchestre National de France and the Orchestre Lamoureux and serves as a French base for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra as well.

The Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées and Ensemble orchestral de Paris play most of their concerts here too, along with other dance, chamber music, recital, and pop events.
