Programme
Overview
Discover Francesco Scarlatti’s electrifying Dixit Dominus and Mass in a landmark revival by Armonico Consort under Christopher Monks. The evening opens with Vivaldi’s radiant Gloria in D, performed by sixteen voices and period instruments, transporting you to Baroque Venice.Under the inspired direction of Christopher Monks, Armonico Consort brings Francesco Scarlatti’s sacred polychoral works vividly back to life. The programme features his thrilling setting of Psalm 110, Dixit Dominus, alongside his richly textured Mass—both conceived in the early 1700s for sixteen voices and period instruments—unfolding in a tapestry of antiphonal splendor and intricate counterpoint. These masterpieces, born in the vibrant liturgical tradition of Baroque Italy, are framed by Antonio Vivaldi’s joyful Gloria in D, composed at Venice’s Ospedale della Pietà around 1715. From solemn devotion to exultant celebration, this concert offers an immersive journey into the spiritual and musical grandeur of the early 18th century.
