Discover a fresh interpretation where gut strings and historical bows breathe new life into every phrase.This special concert unites the Chiaroscuro and Consone Quartets in a single compelling performance, exploring Classical and early Romantic repertoire on authentic period instruments. With gut-strung violins, violas, and cellos guided by historical bows, the musicians reveal nuanced textures and heartfelt expressiveness in two Octets. The evening opens with Danish composer Niels Gade’s 1849 octet, a work celebrated for its lyrical melodies and warm harmonic interplay, followed by a contrasting Octet that pushes the boundaries of ensemble dialogue. Since 2005, the Hall has grown attendance across its entire programme by over 60 per cent. All in all, it now presents around 500 concerts every year, selling a total of 200,000 tickets, and stages as many Learning events. Wigmore Hall plays host to a biennial International Song Competition, and a triennial International String Quartet Competition, drawing exceptionally talented young musicians from around the world keen to embark on significant recital careers.
