Programme
Overview
Tenor Christian Gerhaher and pianist Gerold Huber celebrate Schubert’s birthday with a mesmerizing exploration of twilight songs. From Die Gebüsche and Der Wanderer to Manfred Trojahn’s contemporary Abendröte settings, this recital bathes the evening in the poetic glow of dusk.Join acclaimed tenor Christian Gerhaher and celebrated pianist Gerold Huber for an evocative evening devoted to Schubert’s 'Abendröte', the poetic afterglow of day. Their programme skillfully juxtaposes Schubert’s beloved Lieder—Die Gebüsche and Der Wanderer among them—with selections from Manfred Trojahn’s 2012 song cycle Abendröte, which sets Schlegel’s Abendröthe poems that Schubert never set to music. In their nuanced interpretations each subtle harmonic shift and lyrical inflection conjures the transition from daylight to dusk, inviting listeners into a contemplative space where longing and serenity converge.
