Programme
Overview
As Gramophone hails them as Mendelssohn’s “red-blooded successors” to Beethoven, the Doric String Quartet and Le Monde–acclaimed violist Timothy Ridout ignite the stage with Stravinsky’s edgy Three Pieces, Haydn’s expansive Op. 74 No. 2 and Mendelssohn’s youthful String Quintet No. 1. Join this masterful ensemble for an evening where classical tradition meets exhilarating virtuosity.Under the Doric String Quartet’s precise, impassioned ensemble and the singular warmth of Timothy Ridout’s viola, this programme charts an unforgettable course. It opens with Stravinsky’s jagged, 1914 miniatures that crackle with modern edge, moves into Haydn’s Op. 74 No. 2 with its symphonic breadth and elegant interplay, and culminates in the youthful intensity of Mendelssohn’s String Quintet No. 1. Each movement reveals fresh facets of clarity, drama and lyricism as four strings and a solo viola weave together in seamless dialogue. Tickets range from £18 to £45.
