Programme
Overview
Join Explore Ensemble for the UK premiere of a bold new commission by Laure M Hiendl, paired with Lisa Illean’s Hopkins-inspired tapestry of live and pre-recorded sound, and Morton Feldman’s delicate violin-piano duo. An evening of sensual textures and sublime repetition awaits.Fresh from their acclaimed 2025 UK premiere, Explore Ensemble unveils a bold new commission by Vienna-based composer Laure M Hiendl. In Hiendl’s work, quoted musical fragments are deconstructed and extended in morphing repetitions, bathing the hall in lush, sensual textures that blur the boundaries between sound and silence. Australian-born, UK-based composer Lisa Illean follows with her setting of Gerard Manley Hopkins’s The Sea and the Skylark, weaving live instruments and pre-recorded layers to evoke the poet’s vision of nature’s eternal purity and those ‘two noises too old to end.’ The programme culminates in Morton Feldman’s Spring of Chosroes, an intimate violin-piano dialogue where tightly wound motifs and hushed dynamics reveal the exquisite fragility of each note. Together, these works form an evening of transcendent repetition, where time seems to stretch and the familiar bursts into new, shimmering life.
