Programme
Overview
Experience a powerful concert commemorating the 85th anniversary of the Wannsee Conference, tracing the intertwined fates of two lakeside homes: the grand villa of infamy and the modest refuge of Dr Alfred Alexander. Through evocative music and narration, journey from exile to reconciliation in “The House by the Lake.”In a poignant commemoration of the 85th anniversary of the Wannsee Conference, this concert transports listeners to a serene lakeside setting overshadowed by a dark past. The palatial villa, once the site of a fateful meeting, stands in stark contrast to the modest summer house where Dr Alfred Alexander and his family sought refuge before forced exile. Blending stirring orchestral movements, intimate chamber interludes and narrated excerpts from Thomas Harding’s acclaimed memoir, the evening unfolds a tale of displacement, perseverance and the enduring power of memory. Rich harmonies evoke the tension of history while gentle motifs underscore the resilience of the human spirit. As the final notes fade, the Alexander Haus emerges not merely as a relic of tumultuous times but as a living testament to remembrance and reconciliation.
