Overview
Guardian five-star baritone Huw Montague Rendall returns to Wigmore Hall with a recital pairing personal heritage and timeless drama. Experience Jonathan Dove’s Three Love Songs—set to the late David Rendall’s lyrics—alongside Mahler’s poignant Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen.Fresh from his Guardian five-star debut recording, Contemplation, British baritone Huw Montague Rendall brings his acclaimed artistry back to Wigmore Hall. The evening opens with Jonathan Dove’s Three Love Songs, setting to music the moving texts penned by Rendall’s late father, tenor David Rendall, each song unfolding a vivid tapestry of yearning, memory and quiet joy. After intermission, Rendall delves into Mahler’s four Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, miniature dramas of a wanderer’s heartbreak and hopeful renewal, delivered with his rich timbre and expressive nuance. Accompanied by piano, he guides the audience through an intimate journey of emotion and storytelling, making this recital a profound testament to legacy, craft and the transformative power of song.
