Programme
Overview
Experience an unforgettable recital with acclaimed Canadian violinist James Ehnes. Explore three contrasting masterpieces: the serene grace of Beethoven’s final violin sonata, the dazzling virtuosity of Schubert’s Rondo brillant and the intense drama of Prokofiev’s First Violin Sonata. Be entranced by Ehnes’s refined technique and expressive power.Canadian violinist James Ehnes, hailed by the press as a violinist in a class of his own and an artist of the first order, invites audiences to an evening of transformative sonatas. The recital begins with Beethoven’s final violin sonata, where serene lyricism and contemplative depth unfold in balanced dialogue between violin and piano. Next, Schubert’s Rondo brillant ignites the stage with virtuosic flair and radiant passages that demand both precision and warmth. The programme culminates in Prokofiev’s First Violin Sonata, a work of striking contrasts that shifts between haunting introspection and bold, dramatic outbursts. Throughout, Ehnes’s aristocratic command of tone and dynamic rapport with his pianist create an immersive journey through three distinct musical worlds.
