Programme
Overview
Discover the myth of Ariadne reimagined through 18th-century masterpieces—an enthralling odyssey of love, betrayal and salvation. Travel from Naples to Dresden, London to Vienna in a programme of baroque and classical gems. The myth of Ariadne—charged with love, oppression, political intrigue and ultimate salvation—has inspired countless composers from Monteverdi to Strauss. This special programme homes in on the 18th century, weaving a double thread of narrative evolution—from Ariadne’s anguished abandonment to her triumphant deliverance—and a geographical pilgrimage through Europe’s musical capitals, from Naples’s blazing opera houses and London’s refined salons to Dresden’s court theatres and Vienna’s grand concert rooms. A tapestry of luminous arias, spirited ensembles and the distinctive timbres of period instruments illuminates every facet of her story, painting a vivid sonic portrait of deceptive joy and profound sorrow that resonates across the centuries. Led by a roster of virtuosic soloists, the evening promises immersive storytelling where each chord and cadence reveals a new shade of Ariadne’s inner world.
