Programme
Overview
Step into Romantic brilliance with Nikolai Lugansky’s spellbinding piano recital. Featuring Schumann’s brooding Fantasiestücke Op. 111, the vivacious Faschingsschwank aus Wien, and Chopin’s impassioned Impromptus, this evening unites technical mastery with emotional depth. In an evening of unrivalled artistry, pianist Nikolai Lugansky presents a programme that traverses the full spectrum of Romantic expression. He opens with Robert Schumann’s late Fantasiestücke Op. 111, where brooding harmonies and impassioned melodies reveal profound introspection. From there, he contrasts youthful whimsy in the Faschingsschwank aus Wien cycle, its capricious rhythms dancing across the keyboard with sparkling wit. After the interval, Chopin’s four Impromptus emerge as spontaneous miniatures—playful, lyrical, and unexpectedly poignant—culminating in the wistful Barcarolle and the mercurial energy of the Scherzo No. 4. Throughout, Lugansky’s deep musical intelligence and gilt-edged technique breathe vivid life into each phrase, inviting listeners on a voyage through the shifting moods of 19th-century piano literature.
