Programme
Overview
Experience chamber music in an intimate setting as three soloists highlight Kurtág’s precise aphorisms and Brahms’s Balladen and Romanzen Op. 75 in innovative new arrangements. An evening celebrating melody’s expressive depth and the art of thematic transformation.Join three soloists—alto, tenor and pianist—for an evening devoted to chamber music’s nuanced demands. The programme opens with György Kurtág’s Signs, Games and Messages, a series of succinct, aphoristic works recorded to critical acclaim by Tabea Zimmermann; each excerpt features sharp harmonic turns and abrupt dynamic contrasts, navigated by the performers with precise articulation and intense focus. After the interval, the concert continues with fresh arrangements of Johannes Brahms’s Balladen and Romanzen Op. 75, originally scored for voice and piano. These new versions distribute the melodic material between the two singers, alternating solo passages and close harmonies, while the pianist provides a harmonic framework that balances clarity and warmth. Throughout the evening, the ensemble highlights subtle shifts in tempo, timbre and phrasing, creating an atmosphere of close musical interaction. The performance offers a demonstration of how concise melodic ideas can yield a wide spectrum of moods and textures.
