Programme
Overview
Composer-conductor Thomas Adès returns to Wigmore Hall with an electrifying programme of new commissions and timeless masterpieces. Joined by the Hallé Orchestra, virtuoso guitarist Sean Shibe and award-winning soprano Anna Dennis, the concert traces clarinet showpieces by Barry and Berg, Shakespeare-inspired melodies, Coll’s Turia guitar concerto and exotic treasures by Ravel and Falla. Experience a night of bold contrasts and musical adventure.Thomas Adès continues his ambitious season-long residency at Wigmore Hall, guiding audiences through a programme that juxtaposes daring premieres and beloved classics. Under his baton, members of the Hallé Orchestra bring Gerald Barry’s virtuosic clarinet fantasia and Alban Berg’s lyrical Konzertstück vividly to life, before music inspired by Shakespeare’s verse weaves drama and lyricism into the evening’s fabric. In Francisco Coll’s Turia guitar concerto, Sean Shibe’s agile technique paints a tapestry of Iberian colour and rhythm, leading seamlessly into Ravel’s shimmering harmonies and Falla’s vibrant folkloric dances. Anchoring the programme, soprano Anna Dennis—recent recipient of the Royal Philharmonic Society Singer award—imbues every phrase with crystalline clarity and emotional depth. Join this captivating fusion of innovation and tradition, where each piece opens a new doorway to musical wonder.
