Programme
Overview

"Acis and Galatea" is called pastoral, opera, mask, and secular oratorio, and this in itself suggests that the work differs from all the genres mentioned. The libretto was written by John Gay, the future co-author of the composer Pepusch on the notorious "Beggar's Opera". The plot is borrowed from Ovid's Metamorphoses: the sea nymph is in love with the shepherd Acis, they are taken by surprise by the jealous Cyclops Polyphemus. Acis dies, but Galatea, with her magic, turns his blood into a river stream. The departure from the conventionally idyllic pastoral seems abrupt and unexpected: a comical monster in love commits a murder, an unpretentious girl becomes a tragic heroine endowed with magical powers.

Handel wrote Acis and Galatea in 1718, even before he became a great Handel and national pride for the British, and even before he first took over as director of the Royal Academy of Music. He was 33 years old, in the service of James Bridges, the future Duke of Chendoss, and composed music for his home orchestra. It was not the first or last time that Handel turned to the story of Acis and Galatea, but it was the 1718 edition with some later changes that became especially popular. A choir foreshadowing trouble, a trio in which two happy lovers do not hear the cries of Polyphemus, a wondrous aria of weeping Galatea - the beauty of this music was not overshadowed by either later operas or oratorios. Abroad, this version of "Acis" does not leave the stage, in Russia it sounds relatively rarely.

Zaryadye Hall - Moscow
Location   Varvarka Street, 6 с.4

Zaryadye Hall is a concert hall in Moscow located in the Zaryadye Natural Landscape Park. Valery Gergiev, Denis Matsuev, Anna Netrebko, Daniil Trifonov and Ildar Abdrazakov spoke at the opening ceremony.

The peculiarity of Zaryadye Hall is its strict genre correspondence. No pop performances are planned in the hall. The Zaryadye Hall received world-class performers on the stages of the Big and Small Halls, introduced the audience to the work of such musicians as mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kozhena (Czech Republic), conductor Andrew Parrot and Taverner Choir, Consort and Players (Great Britain), countertenor Jakub Josef Orlinsky ( Poland), Quatuor Diotima string quartet (France). And these artists, in turn, discovered Moscow and Russia.

The hall hosts concerts of not only outstanding masters, but also young artists, a series of topical musical projects: Sound Up, New Classics. The Zaryadye Hall hosted the world premiere of the ballet "Little Red Riding Hood" by the famous dancer Sergei Polunin. The repertoire of the hall also includes educational programs for children and adults: excursions, lectures, master classes, and interactive concert programs.
