About

Danylo Matviienko was born in Novy Svit, Ukraine. He studied music at the Donetsk Academy of Music and then the Academy of the Polish National Opera in Warsaw where he received instruction from Eytan Pessen. He is a regular participant in master classes by Matthias Rexroth, Izabela Klosinska and Neil Shicoff. In addition to his musical studies, he earned a Master’s degree in mathematics at the University of Donetsk. He has performed the roles of Count Danilo (Die Lustige Witwe) at the Kiev National Operetta Theatre, Giorgio Germont (La Traviata), the title role of Eugene Onegin, Figaro (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Macrobio (Rossini’s Pietra del paragone), Gasparo (Donizetti’sRita et Germano), and Germano (Rossini’s La Scala di Seta) at the Kiev Opera Studio. 

As a soloist, he has sung the solo baritone sections of Bach’s Magnificat and the Cantatas BWV10and BWV147 at the Donbas Opera. He also performs the solo baritone sections of Handel’s Messiahand Haydn’s Creation with the Kiev Symphony Orchestra and a Chorus, as well as solos in Duruflé’s Requiem and Sviridov’s Songs of Troubled Times. He has sung the roles of the Count in Philippe Boesmans’ Reigen and the Stage Manager in the Kurt Weill Story at the Bastille Amphitheatre in 2017 / 2018. In 2014, he won the Special Prize at the 4th Boris Shtokolov International Singing Competition in Saint Petersburg and, in 2017, he took 2nd Prize at the Antonina Campi International Singing Competition. In May 2018, he was a finalist in the Queen Élisabeth of Belgium International Music Competition. Danylo Matviienko joined the Paris Opera Academy in September 2017.
