GEORGE PETEAN was born in Cluj-Napoca and studied piano, trombone and singing. His stage debut was in 1997 at the opera in Cluj-Napoca as Don Giovanni.
In 1999 he received the big prize of the Hariclea Darclée international singing competition. He celebrated his international breakthrough in 2000, at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma with La Bohème. From 2002-2010, he was an Ensemble member of the Hamburg Staatsoper. Paralel, he can be heard on the most important, international opera stages (ROH Covent Garden, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Oper Frankfurt, Opéra de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper, Bregenz Festival, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Monte Carlo, Met, Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Aalto Theater Essen, Lausanne, Antwerp, Gent, Berlin Staatsoper, Toulouse, Strasbourg and Rome).
