About
The Opera Australia Orchestra is the busiest of all Australian orchestras, giving around 300 performances each year.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017, the OA Orchestra performs opera, ballet, musical theatre and concert works to international acclaim. The orchestra was formed in 1967 by the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust to be the key performance partner for Opera Australia and the Australian Ballet. It subsequently played for many years as the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, becoming part of Opera Australia in 1991.
Resident at the Sydney Opera House, the Opera Australia Orchestra performs with some of the world’s finest conductors, vocal artists and dancers. Internationally recognised as a distinguished ensemble of the highest calibre, exceptional seasonal and freelance musicians support the core orchestra.
