The Stable Orchestra of the Colon Theater is one of the oldest symphonic ensembles in Argentina. It was established in 1925 due to the need to have its own artistic building of the Colon Theater. In 2007, it was recognized by the Association of Music Critics of Argentina as the best symphony orchestra in the country.
The Colon Theater Symphony Orchestra is the resident orchestra of the Colon Theater in Buenos Aires, founded in 1925. The orchestra performs in operas, ballets and symphonic concerts under the baton of outstanding conductors, including Toscanini, Strauss and Karajan. The orchestra has collaborated with such legends as Callas, Pavarotti and Stravinsky. The orchestra has received numerous awards, including the Konex Award.
Its members recently included violinists Natalia Shishmonina and Sol Duran Moreno, cellist Stanimir Todorov and harpist Melissa Kenny. The orchestra is periodically replenished with new talents through open competitions.
The 2026 season began with a free concert in Centennial Park featuring Beethoven's Overture to Leonora No. 3 and Brahms' First Symphony conducted by Ezekiel Silberstein.
