Overview

She is widely regarded as the queen of “classical” improvisation. Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero invites us on a musical journey to the south.

Conceived as a subtle ode to freedom, the programme intertwines Montero’s extraordinary “freestyle” artistry with sound worlds shaped by the spirit of Spain. Whether authentically Iberian or – like Liszt’s fervently passionate Rhapsody – freely inspired by Spain’s colours and temperament, this concert promises fire, imagination, and boundless expressive power.

Saanen Church - Saanen
Location   Dorfstrasse, 3792

At the heart of the picturesque Alpine village of Saanen stands the historic Saanen Church, one of the most atmospheric and beloved venues of the Gstaad Menuhin Festival. Surrounded by traditional Swiss chalets and breathtaking mountain landscapes, this beautifully preserved church offers a setting where music, history, and spirituality come together in perfect harmony.

Dating back to the 15th century, Saanen Church is renowned for its elegant architecture, centuries-old wooden interior, and remarkable acoustics. Its intimate scale creates a unique connection between performers and audience, allowing every musical detail to be heard with exceptional clarity and warmth. The church’s serene atmosphere makes it particularly well suited to chamber music, solo recitals, sacred works, and vocal performances.
